I met a boy last night who I've talked to before at Karaoke, but this time we really talked. He has transparent glasses, is a cyclist and has a hyphenated last name. He is a year older than me and is authentic and is a feminist who can sing karaoke without giving a shit about how "stupid" he looks.
Most of all he seems genuine. A breath of fresh air.
i saw the white whale biking down my street last night coming home from work. in the past i would've gotten a heavy gut punch drop in my stomach, or embarrassment, shame.
i felt nothing. not sadness, not happiness, but
indifference.
it was as if a stranger passed me on a bike. Could this be a sign the last embers of heartbreak are finally being doused out? i sure hope so. Time does heal; that's a cliche cuz it's true.
also it helps that i finally see him as a dumb ass and not a missed opportunity.
i went to a book release last night. a really attractive man chatted me up and eventually asked for my number.
my MOJO IS BACK.
i love myself more than i used to. i'm more confident. i think the positive energy i feel is noticeable and that is why more men are approaching me.
i stopped giving a fuck about what everyone thinks and what everyone says i should do. now i just do what i want and it seems to me that it's working.
I will be causing a ruckus in our fair city this weekend and it pleases me to no end.
Upon getting ready tonight i will be listening to this song full
blast. No, i do not agree with the blatant misogyny the song is founded
on, but i love that GD tune!!!
tonight I am attending a city photography organization's annual photo week launch party complete with music, OPEN bar, and art ART AND MORE ART. i got the ticket for free, valued at $60.00 :)
Music, booze, and art. My personal paradise.
The only BAD thing that could happen would be if the WHITE WHALE showed up. It is his crowd's sort of thing. But I'm sure he's too jaded by such imbibing and fuss over art he's already seen. We'll see. I can't say i wouldn't be GIDDY AS A SCHOOLGIRL if he was there to see me in my tight little black dress.
I was also invited by my gypsy jazz guitar playing neighbor to a belated-themed-Halloween bash. Of course I could not refuse the offer. boys & booze at that one.
Saturday welcomes a DJ that only plays soul 45s at a local bar/resto in my hood. I don't even have to travel to get my groove on. VERY excited to dance to Hipster's avenue. I actually had a DREAM last night i was dancing to this very song and everyone was looking at me with shame and embarrassment and i couldn't figure out why. Was this a prophetic apparition? Only time will tell.
Sunday morning i am going to a exercise class and then brunch. W/ Levo League gals! I've discovered my new haremmmmmm.
Sunday night i am going to see JAMES BLAKE!!!!!!
He actually does have the voice of an angel. and the vices too.
Canadian accents remind me of the people I love in my life, my family. I was born & raised in Canada til i was three and then moved to the States. But all my relatives and loved ones speak, "that way." So needless to say, a man with a Canadian accent makes me happy cuz the sound of it reminds me of good people in my life.
I am dating a scrappy Canadian, soon-to-be-lawyer (at a non-profit firm no less).
I am in the stage where I my "like" for him is growing at an alarming rate. He wears a St. Christopher emblem around his neck but you can only see it when he has no clothes on.
He has an activist streak in himself for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I don't but I like the fact he cares so much about it. I also like that he invites me along to documentaries and talks about it. He wants me to join in on causes he cares about.
He is in his 30s and has lived in many different places than the U S of A.
He calls me sweetie and hottie and gives me smooches and for right now i am quite content. I'm trying to put off the inevitable - when one of us moves on to another.
It's weird being 20 and single, because you want the connection and care that comes from a consistent partner but you do not want to settle down. I suppose when you get the feeling that you want to settle down, that person is the right one for you.
But I do not think I am ready for that yet. There are things on my list that will be difficult to do with another person - unless they are the right person - then i guess they can come along for the ride.
Friday night i went out with the HCMW (hawt canadian man whore) lawyer. We went to Union Market for some tasty sea morsels of raw oysters. I ordered the Cava, he got a beer i forget the name of now. Oh and we also hacked away at a glorious crabcake, crispy on all sides, laying on a beg of pretentious (in the best sense) slaw.
The HCMW went to Berlin last week and told me of his travels. He spoke of beer and beer and sausages and bread. and lots of art. and people with crazy hair styles who will be cooler than you no matter how hard you try. He also said the bars were all hole in the wall, divey places with dark dark lights and a band that would consist of violinist and bass - or pick any two other instruments.
After that we then went to a bunch of other fine H Street establishments. They have great bars on that street. They are the kind that you can hide away in and will not see anyone you know. They are a bit smoky, loud and secret.
At the Old Queen Vic we had the most beers. Mostly of the Scottish fare. Then the HCMW continued to romance me and i was done for. We've been dating since August, so the jig is up.
After our fun night we went to the Crafty Bastards Craft fair. I bought a beautiful print from an Asheville, NC's Marisol Spoon, http://marisolspoon.com/category.php?category_id=2 I got the "Librarian" one. So fitting. She is so cute. I can't wait to stick her in a frame.
The HCMW wears a St. Christopher necklace under his clothes, over his collarbone. He brought me back 3 huge bars of dark chocolate (70%+). He told me he wants to fatten me up so he won't have other men competing for my affections and he can have me all to himself. Ha! I thought that was very saucy to say.
Lawyer - he always plans amazing date nights, pays for everything, compliments me, is really funny and great conversation. and he is smart.
Hot Canadian Man Whore - We began as friends and now we make-out and kiss when we are together. As soon as he found out i was dating boys, be upped his game and now pays for everything. He calls me sweetie, hottie, and tells me to "stop being so sexy." He makes me blush all the time - yet i am friend zoning him b/c i know he does this with all his "girlfriends."
Hawt Ginge - I think i want to friend zone him, but he seems like the sweetest guy ever. We've only been out once but I can tell he is a good person. i just can't tell if i like him that way yet.
I had a date on Sunday with a wonderful man. We'll call him, WG for Wonderful Guy.
The WG came over to my place Sunday morning and RE-BUILT my Bike that i have so long for and missed!!!
It was very appealing watching him get out his tool box and build it for me. and sweat over me. Very cute indeed.
Then we went for a bike ride over to his house. He lives in a big group house with a huge deck and garden. He showed me some starter plants and the compost he built last week. He wanted to kiss me right then and there but he didn't cuz i wasn't gonna let him yet.
Then we went to a coffee shop.
Then we rode our bikes to Rock Creek Park and we sat by the creek and he surprised me by pulling a picnic our of his backpack!!!
Baguette, Italian sopressata salami (the fat in it tasted like butter; it was amazing), Blue cheese, figs, smoked salmon and dark chocolate!
Then, finally we went to Meridian Hill Park to see the infamous Drum circle that gathers every Sunday afternoon and has for 50 years!
We were quite PDA-ish and ridiculous and it makes me wonder and/or worry i may actually really want to give more attention than is usually given to men to the WG.
My Friday Date consisted of amazing imbibing at PX Lounge.
Crispy, succulent Fish'n'Chip fare at Eamonn's Chippery!
This was our Cab ride into DC from Alexandria
And finally we ended the night dancing to WHITE FORD BRONCO at Town Tavern. Awesome 90s cover band!!! Can you say mash-up of "All for you" and "Run-around"?!
We also danced and made-out sporadically to:
I touch myself
Let's give them something to talk about
Genie in a bottle
Get what you give
Last night I met a very cute Nigerian-American guitarist at my corner bar. I'm hoping he will guide me thru the music scene here and give me good advice on how to get on a stage!!!
