well that was silly.

OK so Marc Maron - Aidan Shaw hybrid poked me AND accepted my Friends request .

So that last post meant nothing.

This morning i made eggs and coffee and watch "broad city." i cleared my schedule today so i could just be. It's a nice and rare feeling when all you need to do in a day is putz around; write, clean, read, nibble on food. tonight i am going to a concert with friends. :)

I am young and free and life is good.

It was ... odd.

I had yet another extremely vivid, long dream about dating Marc Maron last night. The beginning of the date was good. We spent sunny days eating and drinking and hiking in CALIFORNIA?

Marc Maron - taken by yours truly at the Strathcona Hotel, Toronto, May 2010.

I brought him home to my parents and family and no one understood and kept telling me he was too old and then we got in fights and then my mom questioned how many men I had slept with in my lifetime.

It was ... odd.

I woke up feeling ashamed yet extremely in love and couldn't get back to sleep. I'm blaming this on the Catholic Guilt that I'll never rid myself of.

I hope if I ever do date an old man my family will understand. Seeing as though the majority of my boyfriends have been 5-15 years older than me, I do not see that changing soon. Although my recent NYE disaster was younger than me.

It would be really difficult for me to love someone if my family hated them. Is that ok? I feel like if you love someone, you'd be able to be ok w/ your family not liking them. But how much is worth having fights with your family?

LUCKILY, none of these things are my problem.

Just my dream's problem.

Give zero shits

This year, I stopped giving a shit about what other people thought about my life plans, dreams, goals. For a long time in my life I judged my plans against the advice of my parents, close friends, society. It's good to seek advice, but you cannot let other people plan your life for you. All that matters is what you feel. If getting married young and buying a home makes you happy, you need to do that, no matter what society thinks. If spending all your savings on travel and moving back in with your parents to save again for the next trip is what makes you happy, you need to do that. If never getting married, or never having kids is what makes you happy, you need to do that. Don't listen to people who are not living your life.

A lesson I learned this year was that you have to do what you want to do, not what others expect of you. If you do what others expect of you all your life, you will be miserable. You will look back on your life and feel pissed that you didn't do anything you truly wanted to do.

The worst that can happen is that you die from your choice. The chances of this happening are PRETTY DAMN slim. Unless your jumping off something really high, or something. If you lose your job, run out of money, are homeless, chances are you probably have some sort of support system to help you out.

So go and live HOWEVER you want. You really have NOTHING to lose.
The very last one.

A Masterpiece

Once upon a time, I dated an artist. It was a very short romance. As most stereotypes, he oozed charisma. His flirtations were a wide net and I was the catch; inescapable. I had no chance the moment he put his arm around my waist and whispered in my ear, “I think we’re going to be trouble.”
The hooks were in deep. But then came the mood swings, the verbal abuse … the other women. He no longer talked with me, but at me. All conversations were art lectures, or therapist appointments in which I played the role of the incompetent therapist. Listening for hours, not able to offer advice, and leaving more perplexed about “us” then when I had walked in. His narcissism and womanizing revealed itself soon enough and that lead to a swift demise.
I went to a music concert recently and this quote from a song stuck out to me:
"Like a flame not allowed to last very long but how fantastic and strong."
(Frontier Ruckus - If the Suns Collapse)
From my end, our relationship was as short as it was intense. But it was not all bad, because I learned some invaluable lessons. I learned what I will allow and what I will not. I learned that I want to be an equal in a partnership, not a fiddler player of the background music to someone else’s life story. The question this short relationship asked of me was, do I want to be the muse or do I want to be the artist, the creator myself? I have learned I am the creator of my own life story.
So this afterthought isn’t about how to date a creative mind. This is about how to cultivate your own creative power, how to become your own creator.
At some point you must find the strength within yourself to step out from your partner's shadow. Living in the shadow of an artist can be difficult. Artists are contagiously creative, passionate, and emotional.  They brood in thought and like a mood ring can be 50 colors in one day. Not all these traits are bad. But they can effect you negatively if you let them. The American photographer, Lee Miller, met surrealist artist, Man Ray, when she was 22 years old in 1929. She became his lover and muse. While with him, she managed to learn from his photographic techniques, help run his studio, and become an artist. At 25, Miller left Man Ray and Paris to return to New York and establish a portrait and commercial photography studio with her brother Erik as her darkroom assistant.  She would go on to become an acclaimed photographer for Vogue, serving as war correspondent during WWII.

Examine yourself. Who are you and what are you creating? The painter, Frida Kahlo, once said, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." Meeting the famous artist Diego Rivera at age 20, Frida wanted his opinion on her work. He replied, “You’ve got talent.” This encouragement and her perseverance would result in the Louvre buying one of her paintings, “The Frame”; the first work by a twentieth-century Mexican artist to be purchased by the renowned museum. Although Kahlo’s fame came posthumously, her authentic sense of self has lived on forever in her art and its admirers. Your creations are eternal.
The Frame by Frida Kahlo

I invite you to create a list of qualities you’d like in an ideal partner. In a 1981 speech given at Yale, the ground-breaking feminist, political activist and journalist, Gloria Steinem stated, “Some of us are becoming the men we wanted to marry.” Ask yourself if you have the qualities you would like to have in a partner. If you do, that’s great. If you don’t have them, focus on those qualities you lack and see how you can cultivate them. Remember to create your own masterpiece before giving all your paint away to a jackass. Your personal artistry will lead you to making your very own masterpiece if you let it.

Dreams ... (or nightmares?) of late

I had a dream this last night/morning. I was dating Marc Maron. We lived in Austin, Texas and my family was in town. We were at Austin-y restaurant; meaning it was a restaurant with Mexican food and brightly colored picnic tables and pink prickly pear margaritas.  I kept on being constantly paranoid about what my conservative father and Marc Maron were going to talk about and I kept on interrupting. It became a "stress dream" - one of those dreams you have when you wake up totally stressed out about it.Some people run from a monster or zombie for the whole night. I go on dates w/ my family and liberal comedian fake boyfriend.

Marc Maron. I love his podcasts. He is the voice for people like me who are anxious and are attempting normal.
I was half awake lying in bed, thinking "OMG I can't date this guy. My family hates this guy. But I wanna date this guy! What am I going to do?" I was totally stressed out about it.

Then I realized I am not dating Marc Maron so I tried to calm the fuck down.

Two nights ago I had a REALLY weird dream where I had two fucked up looking nipples in addition to my regular nipples. Nipples?!

Here is what dream dictionaries say about that:

Nipples:Whether you are a child or an adult, seeing nipples in your dream represents that you rely on your mother for a lot of things. On the other hand, you might just need some motherly love or someone close to you reminds you of that love.

You are feeling sexually inadequate.

No shit, Sherlock.

Italy

I'm going to start taking Italian class so I can run away to Italy in two years. Italy inspires me and when I lived there in 2009 I fell in love with it.  I watched "Marriage Italian Style" last week and realized how much I miss hearing Italian, and how much fun it would be to learn it again.  But, if I'm going to learn it, I'm going to have to make an effort to speak in it! Whenever I take a language class, I don't practice speaking enough. :) Plus, this gives me a legit excuse to talk to hot Italians that live in DC.

band-aid

 :)

i look at your facebook page and see you with another new girl.
i'm ripping a band-aid off my arm, taking a bit of skin and hair with it.
eventually the ripping won't hurt anymore and
i won't even need the band-aid.
but until then (i think it'll be here sooner than later),

i have a salve,
and friends,
and dreams so big
my arms do not fit around them.

waiting is very hard.
and believing in something you cannot see
or have never met is
even more difficult.

but that is how hope is sewn together,
how quilts are made,
how tides of people change things.

i am much stronger and older than i was last year,
i am more hopeful too.
it is all happening.
with no plans i am
full of possibilities.

breakthrough.

For the first time in a LONG time, i felt whole. I felt that everything I needed, I had. I wasn't wanting anything, I wasn't missing anything; I felt truly complete. It happened at yoga last night and it was a personal highlight for me this year.  I was in the half moon pose!!!

i have been getting signs lately. and it's getting me really excited. I can hear my intuition clearly now and I'm confident it's leading somewhere magical. for awhile there, I couldn't hear it at all and didn't know what to do. I was feeling shame, guilt, and apologizing for no reason.

my future goals are more visible now, but i am also trying to live in the present. it's a balancing act that only gets better with practice. that's what I've learned these past few months.

ALSO can i just say, "The Four Agreements" has been an amazing read these past few months. It may seem at first like hippe bullshit, but it is a book which has reminded me about things that are key to have in finding personal acceptance, contentment, confidence.

The World Is Your Oyster!

you are limitless.

I never really believed that phrase, "the world is your oyster."
but lately I am beginning to believe it is right.

The World Is Your Oyster!

After months of wondering if i had anymore goals or dreams,
I've finally found the strength to daydream.
I'm finally allowing myself to dream big. And while dreaming big, I had these thoughts:

It's appalling to me how easily we believe others when they say what we can, can't, should, and shouldn't do.

Following your heart is the truest thing you can do for yourself and your dreams. If your heart is leading you somewhere or to something, it is for a reason. If your intentions are true, it will cancel out all the people that tell you not to do it. That said, it's good to have realistic goals.  And it is good to have a group of trusted individuals who you trust that can help guide you to your goals, shape them into being.

What holds us back?

  • When someone tells us it's stupid.
  • When someone says we can't do it; it's too hard.
  • When someone tells us we're "crazy"
  • When we tell ourselves we're not good enough, smart enough, strong enough, etc.

But all these thing are only words. They are not facts or based in any truth.
Yet, why do we invest so much belief into these false phrases??? Are we afraid of our goals, and using excuses lets us avoid that fear? Lets us ignore the fear and succumb to denial because it's easier than thinking about the truth?

"Do not conform to the patterns of this world" Romans 12:2

I think all we can do in this world is daydream, dream, make many lists of those dreams and go out and do them.  There is no timeline, there is no shoulds or musts.

It's odd how the easiest and the hardest part is to follow your heart. But in a way that's the only thing you need to know. Whether it's sipping the early morning coffee or taking a trip to Brazil, however big or small, if we are living with true, thoughtful intentions and letting our hearts lead us, we will have the world at our fingertips.

So remember you are limitless.  Things people say are simply words, not truth. The only truth you have is the one within.

your hairline now so untrustworthy

You Are the Penultimate Love of My Life
BY REBECCA HAZELTON

I want to spend a lot but not all of my years with you.
We’ll talk about kids
                              but make plans to travel.
I will remember your eyes
as green when they were gray.
Our dogs will be named For Now and Mostly.
Sex will be good but next door’s will sound better.

There will be small things.
I will pick up your damp towel from the bed,
                                                            and then I won’t.
I won’t be as hot as I was
                              when I wasn’t yours
and your hairline now so
               untrustworthy.
When we pull up alongside a cattle car
                              and hear the frightened lows,
                              I will silently judge you
                              for not immediately renouncing meat.
You will bring me wine
and notice how much I drink.

The garden you plant and I plant
                              is tunneled through by voles,
                                                             the vowels
                                                             we speak aren’t vows,
               but there’s something
                              holding me here, for now,
like your eyes, which I suppose
                                                             are brown, after all.

Recent Obsessions of late

  • Marc Maron - his unlikely sexiness, neurosis, sexy old man-ness, humor, sound of his voice, the fact that he dates women half his age (i realize it's wrong, but i don't care - and it's probably because i am half his age that i approve of this).
Marc Maron - taken by yours truly at the Strathcona Hotel, Toronto, May 2010.

  • Suki Waterhouse - her hair, face, fashion, and the fact that she has charmed the pants off Bradley Cooper. Girls must have something goin' on. And she's only 22. At the very least she'd have some great stories to share over tea time.

Tag you're it.

Me and the white whale just talked on the phone for 30 minutes. I could barely breathe on the phone because he sounds so sexy......and i already know i laughed too much, failing to maintain any mystery. He gives me butterflies and it's so embarrassing. And i don't even think he thinks what I think. He probably just thinks i think of him as a friend.

He wants to become running buddies and drink beers. He wants to be friends? I don't know. I don't really care.

But when i got off the phone - this is what i did [WATCH AT 4:25 OF THIS YOUTUBE VIDEO].

And that's how i know if i have a crush on a sexy ass man.

Crushed and Conquered.

I finally stopped having a crush on the RPJ about a month ago. i realized he had no interest in me, i was too young for him, and i needed to stop wasting my thoughts on him.

Yet - i couldn't really stop thinking about him because that man is so GD hawt. So I never really did. I still would imagine us on the island of cyprus, in bora bora, or bali, drinking beers, and having amazing sex.

Blue Lagoon  ||   Jamaica

Of course i realize this would never happen but that is half the fun in day-dreaming, isn't it? if it could or would happen it wouldn't be so fun to think about. Anywho - i never really stopped fantasizing about the RPJ.

And today i think the Universe decided to fuck with me.

Today i left my house in the later part of the afternoon. I was in a great mood. I got dressed in my cute hemp crocheted hippie "Almost Famous"-like shirt and put some makeup on my face. nothing fancy but let's just say i was fucking RADIATING today for some apparent reason. You know, the days when you get dressed up and you just feel great about how you look and confident? it was one of those awesome days.

I love the crochet shirt but needs a shirt under

I went outside, walking around my neighborhood and was looking at everything, soaking it all in. As i walked down the sidewalk i saw NONE OTHER THAN THE RPJ walking towards me on this lovely Sunday afternoon with his lady friend of the moment.

I could see the "oh fuck" expression in his face. if you've read my posts before you know this man was/is like my WHITE WHALE. my moby FUCKing dick. The one guy i really want but will most likely never have - but i'm willing to act a fool and do anything to possibly get him. I AM CAPTAIN AHAB in this situation, basically.

~dr-phoenix. Moby Dick.

So i saw the "oh fuck" expression - or maybe just a "awkward" expression. BUT instead of being awkward back, or adding to the "most painfully awkward interactions i've ever had with a man" top ten list that is included with every single time i've ever seen the RPJ, i decided to play it cool. i gave my most disarming, sweet smile, said "Hey, RPJ*" and on top of everything I LOOKED REALLY FUCKING BEAUTIFUL TODAY.

(*sidenote: his name - which i can't write in this blog post just in case he ever would somehow see this post, even though he will most likely never will - is the most delicious name to come out of your mouth. You feel flirty and free saying it and you wish you could whisper it in his ear so badly, but like i said, he is my Moby Dick. When you have a crush on someone, their name is so beautiful to hear and you just wanna write it into a song and sing it in the shower, hear it bouncing off the walls, enveloping your ears and echoing back to you. This may sound like crazy-talk, but hard-core crushes include intense adoration like the sounds of names or the weird observance of the way they walk or wondering how they look stark naked.)

He responded with a warm smile, hello, and how are you as well. He was with a woman who i suspect is older than me. He must be into women his age. But i swear if he just gave me an afternoon i'd change his mind.

The reason i'm even bothering to write about this interaction is because I'm so happy I was able to have at least ONE NON-PAINFULLY AWKWARD interaction with the crush that rejected me. It's hard to see someone who you asked out on a date and rejected you. It's not something you want to do every Sunday. But I'm glad i took the opportunity to make amends and just "be cool." At least now i can hope he doesn't realize how big of a crush i had on him and how embarrassed i was when i was around him before.

I like to think someday this will not all be so hard.

last night's dream

i dreamt i was dancing on a wedding-guest-like dance floor with Louie CK to "Video Killed the Radio Star."  I know all the reasons i had this dream but it is too personal and embarrassing for this blog. But it's weird how dreams tell you things you need to know. Or things you were trying not to know or listen to - until you are forced to embody them while sleeping with no way to avoid.

Even your subconscious wants to help you.
